Unlocking Windows Insider Build on Parallels Desktop for M1 iMac

As an avid user of Parallels Desktop, I recently decided to give the Windows Insider Build a try on my M1 iMac. The process was straightforward, with installation instructions readily available on the Parallels knowledge base. However, I hit a snag when the software requested AVX instructions that are not yet supported by Parallels.

I'm currently running Parallels Desktop 17 for Mac on macOS Big Sur version 11.6, powered by an M1 processor and 16 GB of RAM. After installation, Windows Update kicked in and started installing Insider Preview Build 22478.rs-prerelease.211008-1414.

As I explored the capabilities of this build, I discovered that I couldn't launch Age of Empires IV (AOE IV), despite being able to play Age of Empires II without any issues. This led me to wonder whether Parallels provides a virtual Intel machine or if it's possible to run Windows 10 on an M1 processor.

After some research, I found that the original poster had successfully installed Windows 10 on their Parallels setup, but SketchUp complained about graphics compatibility. This sparked my curiosity about the capabilities of Parallels on M1 hardware.

To clarify the situation, does Parallels M1 implement a virtual M1 machine? Can it run a virtual Intel machine? I'd love to know more about the transition process and what rocks might be in the way of completing this shift. As someone who's new to M1 hardware, I'm eager to learn from those with hands-on experience.
